COOPERATIVE DISTRICTS

The Legislature has passed and the Governor has signed Act No. 2000-781 which authorizes counties, municipalities, and public corporations in Alabama to cooperate in the acquisition, construction, operation, and financing of any capital improvement which any one of them might acquire, construct, operate, or finance through a public corporation to be called a "cooperative district."

Section 14 of Act No. 2000-781 exempts cooperative districts created pursuant thereto "from all taxes levied by any county, municipality or other political subdivision of the state, including, but without limitation to, license and excise taxes imposed in respect of the privilege of engaging in any of the activities that a district may engage in."

Act No. 2000-781 becomes effective August 1, 2000.
