JOINT PARK AND RECREATION AUTHORITIES
The Legislature has passed and the Governor has signed Act No. 2000-106. Act No. 2000-106 authorizes the incorporation of new park and recreation authorities and the reincorporation of existing park and recreation authorities by counties and participating municipalities, one of which must be a Class 4 municipality and has within 90 days of the effective date of Act No. 2000-106 opted by ordinance to be a participating municipality.
Section 18 of Act No. 2000-106 outlines certain tax exemptions relative to park and recreation athorities created or reincorporated under the act. This section specifically exempts the sale, purchase, storage, use, or consumption of any property used in the construction and equipping of any park and recreation facility for an authority, regardless of whether the sale is to an authority, or any contractor or agent of an authority, from state, county, and municipal sales and use taxes now or hereafter levied. Act No. 2000-106 became effective March 9, 2000.
