It has come to the Revenue Department's attention that Russell County has decided to self-collect their county tobacco taxes. Therefore, by resolution of the Russell County Commission in accordance with Alabama Code Section 11-3-11, the Alabama Department of Revenue will no longer administer and collect tobacco taxes for Russell County.

The August 2001 Monthly County Tobacco Tax Return, which was due no later than September 20, 2001, was the final return to report activity and remit tobacco taxes to the Alabama Department of Revenue for Russell County. Any questions concerning the collection and administration of Russell County tobacco taxes after September 30, 2001 (August 2001 tobacco activities) must be directed to the Russell County Commission.

Please ensure that the person responsible for filing your county tobacco tax return receives this notice along with the enclosed revised county tax return for filing September 2001 activity only. The Department was only recently informed of the county's intentions and we regret any inconvenience that this short notice might cause your company. To reiterate, DO NOT FILE AND REMIT RUSSELL COUNTY SEPTEMBER 2001 TOBACCO TAXES TO THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE.
