This document is very similar to a U.S. Passport, except it has a red cover. If Merchant Mariner does not have their credential but has/knows their reference number, eligibility can be verified by visiting the following website: MMLD Credential Verification. Veterans may also provide a certification from the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVA). The ADVA website http://www.va.alabama.gov will provide additional information or visit the nearest Veterans Service Office to obtain Certificate of Authorization.
