About Us

The Deputy Commissioner’s role includes a myriad of duties and activities which are positioned to bring to fruition the plans and goals of the Commissioner of Revenue. These activities include, but are not limited to: the development and communication of major tax policies; the creation and implementation of actions which increase the efficiency and effectiveness of ALDOR; liaison functions with the Governor and governor’s staff; and interactions with various legislators, business groups, and professional associations.

Janet W. Stathopoulos

Deputy Commissioner of Revenue

Janet Stathopoulos began her career with the Alabama Department of Revenue in 1985 and has held various management positions at ALDOR, including manager of the Motor Fuels, Field Audit, and Assessment sections. Prior to being named Director of the Business and License Tax Division in 2011, Janet served as the Assistant Director of the Sales, Use and Business Tax Division.

As Deputy Commissioner, Janet is responsible for overseeing Business and License Tax, Human Resources and Sales and Use Tax.

A native of Northport, Alabama, Janet received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama.
