Do Not Click Links, Do Not Respond, Delete the Message
MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Department of Revenue has received reports of fraudulent text messages looking to enforce penalties on unsuspecting recipients resulting from an “unpaid traffic ticket.” These messages may ask users to click a link that begins as “https://mydmv.alabama…”, although there may be several different variations of this link depending on the text message received. DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK.
ALDOR does not enforce traffic laws or penalize people for unpaid tickets. Also be aware that an “Alabama Department of Vehicles” does not actually exist.
ALDOR does not contact taxpayers through text messages, so if you receive any sort of message that looks like this one, do not click any included links, do not respond to the message, and delete the message immediately. Here is an example of the text message:
Alabama Department of Vehicles(DMV) Final Notice: Enforcement Penalties Begin on June 8.
Our records show that as of today, you still have an outstanding traffic ticket. In accordance with alabama State Administrative Code 15C-16.003, if you do not complete payment by June 7, 2025, we will take the following actions:
1. Report to the DMV violation database
2. Suspend your vehicle registration starting June 8
3. Suspend driving privileges for 30 days
4. Transfer to a toll booth and charge a 35% service fee
5. You may be prosecuted and your credit score will be affected
