By resolution on May 28, 2024, the Cherokee County Commission authorized the Alabama Department of Revenue (ALDOR) to administer the gasoline and motor fuel excise taxes for Cherokee County effective September 1, 2024. Cherokee County will be added to the Monthly Tax Return of State Administered County Taxes on Gasoline and Motor Fuels (B&L: MFCO). Therefore, September 2024 Cherokee County excise tax returns should be filed with ALDOR no later than October 21, 2024.

Gasoline and motor fuel local excise tax returns and payments should be submitted through My Alabama Taxes at https://myalabamataxes.alabama.gov/. If you already have a County Fuel Tax Account (CFT), you will not need to register again; however, if you do not have a CFT account, you will need to request a new account. If you are currently filing through the Motor Fuel Single Point system, you may continue to do so.
