MONTGOMERY โ€“ The Alabama Department of Revenue (ALDOR) is expanding the relief announced on October 13, 2026, by providing an automatic individual income tax filing extension to Alabama taxpayers affected by Hurricane Isaias that reside or have a business in the 40 Alabama counties named in Governor Kay Iveyโ€™s state of emergency declaration. No contact with ALDOR is required for these impacted taxpayers to receive the filing extension on their individual income tax return granted pursuant to ยง 40-2-11(a)(13), Code of Ala. 1975.

Alabama taxpayers residing in the designated disaster areas now have until February 4, 2027, to file individual income tax returns that were due by October 15, 2026. Because tax payments related to these 2025 tax year returns were due April 15, 2026, those payments are not eligible for this relief.

The IRS announcement and list of eligible localities are available at https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-announces-tax-relief-for-taxpayers-impacted-by-hurricane-isaias-in-alabama-various-deadlines-postponed-to-feb-4-2027.

Taxpayers needing relief for other tax filings, or those outside the designated disaster areas who face difficulty filing on time due to weather-related circumstances associated with Hurricane Isaias may request relief on a case-by-case basis. Taxpayers may contact the following ALDOR offices by telephone to request relief or for any additional assistance:
