TO: License Plate Issuing Officials/Programmers/System Vendors
SUBJECT: MLI Updates
On Nov. 20, 2017, the Mandatory Liability Insurance (MLI) system registration status code: “(DP) Deferred Payment” was renamed “(DS) Deferred Suspension.” The name change does not change how the registration status code functions. The MLI Procedures Manual has been updated to reflect inclusion of the new code. The manual is available on the MVTRIP homepage: MLI Manual. Additionally on Dec. 14, 2017, the MLI suspension file was updated to include the registration status code: “(DS) Deferred Suspension.” This information will alert licensing officials that the registrant has admitted to an MLI violation and the registration will be suspended after the registrant’s appeal period as provided by law. Please see Memorandum 2017-014 for detailed information about “(DS)” Deferred Suspension.”
