TO: License Plate Issuing Officials
SUBJECT: New License Plate for Issuance Beginning January 1, 2020

The Emergency Medical Services (Act 2019-418) (EMS) distinctive plate will be available for issuance beginning January 1, 2020. The plate has an annual additional fee of $50. Please note personalized and pre-numbered plates may be ordered on the Plate Reservation and Ordering System (PROS) beginning January 1, 2020. Distribution information for the EMS plate category was included with the Comptroller’s memo dated October 8, 2019.

The plate is to only be issued to Emergency Medical Service Members which is verified via the Alabama Department of Public Health’s (ADPH) website.  A link to the ADPH member list has been added on the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) website at https://revenue.alabama.gov/motor-vehicle under “License Plate and Registration Information” then “License Plate Information” then “Distinctive Plates (all vehicles).” 

The tag numbering schemes for the license plate may be found on the MVD website at https://revenue.alabama.gov/motor-vehicle/ under “Reference & Statistics” then “Registration File Information.”
