TO: License Plate Issuing Officials
SUBJECT: Constable Owned Vehicles

Please be advised that vehicles owned by Constables do not qualify for the tax and registration
fee exemptions provided under Section 40-12-250, Code of Ala. 1975, and must be titled and
registered like any private passenger vehicle.

The Motor Vehicle Division will be notifying owners of vehicles titled and registered in the
name of the Constable’s Office to visit their licensing office in the county where they reside to
apply for a corrected certificate of title, pay any taxes due and properly register the vehicle.
