MEMORANDUM 2021-012

TO: License Plate Issuing Officials
SUBJECT: Redesigned/New License Plates for January 1, 2022

The Standard Passenger, Spay-Neuter, and Ronald McDonald House Charities license plates have been redesigned. Legislative Act 2021-407 brings back the Alabama Bicentennial plate (redesigned). Plates will be shipped based on the number of current registrations in each county for each plate category.

Legislative Act 2021-430 creates a new military plate for Cold War Veterans. The plate is only to be issued to veterans of the Cold War which must be verified by a copy of the Cold War recognition certification displaying the recipient’s name or a DD214.

Registrants with more than 50 vehicles may register and pay ad valorem tax on vehicles utilizing the Fleet Online Registration & Tax (FORT) system. Please see administrative rules 810-5-1-.200 and 810-4-1-.05 for more information.

Personalized and pre-numbered plates may be ordered via PROS. Bulk orders may be placed using AIMS. Please remember to remove all license plates with the old design from your shelves and retain them for audit purposes.

Please contact the Motor Vehicle Division at 334-242-9000 if you have any questions.
